Bible Journaling

Deepening in your bible time.

Today, we are going to be talking about Bible study, and how our inserts, can help you enhance your study.

One of the things that can be frustrating, in regard to Bible study, is the thought of not knowing what to do, where to read in your bible, where to start, or even understanding what we are reading. Often we find ourselves feeling lost and directionless. Not knowing what to do...this is why and how these planner inserts were born...from many years, of trying to figure out how to make sense of what I was reading, and being hungry to learn how to grow and apply what I was reading. These inserts were born through personal bible study time.

When I first started to read the bible, I felt all of the feelings that are described above. Frustrated, lost and confused. Looking for resources, teaching me HOW to study the bible and then feeling confused. Why? Because most of what I was reading, was teaching under the assumption that I already knew the word and was familiar with it...in short, most of it was academic. I was not able to learn in that way, because I am not a seminary student. I am a regular human. A regular mother, with children, a husband and a normal every day life.

Adding to my frustration is the fact that I don't have hours and hours to learn to pick through teachings of many kinds. I needed to understand what I was reading in a way that helped me get closer to the Lord, and not waste time on things that were not important to me at the moment...leading me to the most important point. I needed something that was going to help me GROW in my relationship with the Lord, not take me away.

From that place, once I slowed down and allowed myself to be in the bible, I learned that reading the bible is three things.

One. It is me building a relationship with my/The Creator.

Two. I am learning HOW to learn again.

And three, every time I read, He is building within me a foundation. Building brick by brick, if you will, and layering the word within me.

Meaning, this is a very personal process. One in which I am growing, daily.

What this helped me to see and realize, is that because it is a personal process, between the Lord and I (and the Lord and you), is that I needed a system, that I can grow with...as a result, the Bible Inserts, were born.

To help me (and you) Reflect. Track. And grow in what I was and am reading.

This system, helps me see the relationship that I am building with the Lord, on paper.

They do this in simple, yet practical ways. The first area that these inserts work on, is to help you reflect, on paper, what you're reading. Often, during my morning bible study time, I would get become immersed in what I was reading. Passages. Words. Stories, and understanding. I needed a place to record those things and organize them.

The reflection pages are wonderful in this area. To start, the Journaling page. Where you can open up a verses that is speaking to you, while you're reading, and write about that there. The Verse Comparison Page, where you are able to write and reflect upon two verses that are drawing up something within you. The Word Study Page, that helps you study a word as you are drawn to it. And similarly a Verse Study Page for an entire verse.

Next tracking. Inserts, to help you keep track of the sections that you have already read and need to recall.

One of the things that used to drive me crazy, was knowing that I studied a word, phrase or verse in my bible...or that a story made sense to me, in a way that stirred something within me, and looking for that particular thing, and then not being able to find it...because of this, the tracking pages came to be. So that earlier sessions, were easily discoverable and accessible when recall was necessary.

Those inserts are, the Calendar Pages. To keep track of what you're reading. The Daily Log. To keep track of notes regarding what was read, studied or journaled daily. And the Verse Keeper. For those who write a daily verse (more on this versatile page later).

With these inserts, recall, is as simple. No more looking through pages and pages in the hopes that you will come across something that you read previously.

Lastly, are the growth inserts. These are two fold. Born because I needed a place to reflect on what I've read over the month. A place where I could go back to and see what I've read, but also what the Lord has shown me and how it's applied it to life, and others within this section for the purpose of long study. These are the Monthly Overview, the Chapter Study and Book Study.

Each of these sections, and the inserts within create a system, that helps you grow in your bible study over time, by structuring your study in a way that helps you learn deeper about what you are reading. This is done, by giving you the space to explore your questions and gather the answers. Then tracking what you're learning and being able to circle back to it. Finally, by giving you a place to reflect upon what you've read.

It's been my understanding, that bible study is deeply personal, and that the Lord speaks to each one of us. Because of this, I believe that a lot of people struggle with things that are paced by others. This system, helps you, go at your own pace, and gives you the frame work to grow.

Simple. Straight forward. But most importantly, personal.
